This pattern is for a standard bed pillow and is an envelope style pillow case. Using a ruffle foot on your sewing machine will make this project a breeze (ruffle foot not required though).

Cut your fabric in the following dimensions:

Front pannel: 29.5 x 22 inches

Back panels (cut 2): 18.5 x 22 inches

Ruffle (cut 5): 6 x 43 inches

Next you will need to make a 1/2 inch hem one of the 22” side of both of the back panels.

To make the ruffles first sew together all of the ruffle pieces along the 6” side to create one long strip that is 6”x213”. Fold the strip in half lengthwise (3×213” now) pretty side facing out and iron. Sew both ends together to make a circle with raw edges inside. Next put your sewing machine on the longest stitch length (you may want to change color of bobbin thread)so it’s easier to distinguish bc it will eventually be pulled out. Sew 2 basting stitches around the perimeter of the ruffle circle *do not backstitch any of the basting circles. Now pull on the bobbin thread manually to create ruffles until your ruffle circle is the same size as your pillow perimeter.

You can also use a ruffle foot set to the 6 setting and sew on the raw edge 1/4 inch pictured above.

The last step is to sew all the layers together so put your sewing machine stitch length back to your regular settings. Then place your front fabric pretty side up.

Next place your ruffle circle inside with raw edges lined up with raw edges of front fabric.

Pin ruffles down, be sure to not skimp on the corners.

Next add one back panel pretty side down on the ruffles layer while lining up raw edges . Lastly add second back panel with pretty side down. Have the raw edges lined up with all other layers of raw edges (the middle hemmed layers will overlap creating the envelope style enclosure).
